Liquid Sunshine Tropical Fish began as a glimmer in the eye of Eric Hanneman, a fish nut since childhood, who really got started in middle school in the late 60s.

As an avid tropical fish hobbyist, Eric had always dreamed of having a shop where people could come to get the coolest fish, the best advice on their care, and how to breed them. All at a fair price.

Eric had a basement fish room with 60 aquariums, but had grown tired of being a stay at home dad and wanted to live out his dream. He found a place in downtown Eugene that had the right amount of footage to build a store.

After much debate about names, one rainy February afternoon while driving over the Ferry Street bridge, Eric put together the two main themes, water and yellow (his favorite color of fish), and came up with the name: Liquid Sunshine. No one had thought of it and he made it his.

Liquid Sunshine's mission is to educate people about how to successfully keep tropical fish in a manner that is economically practical while stimulating them to learn more about their pets, including breeding fish in captivity. We take fish in that are not wanted, issue credit for fish when we can, and work with the customer to insure that the aquarium they want is the aquarium they have.
